Hello Mama’s Physio. I just wanted to say thank you for the pelvic floor care I received at your clinic. In 1989, I suffered a traumatic, life threatening miscarriage with injury to the bladder. I struggled with severe hip pain and embarrassing bladder issues. I had spent years doing Kegels assuming that this would help. It was at your clinic that I learned that I had too much tension not too little in the pelvic floor – whoops too many Kegels. With the care and direction of your therapist Diana Blaney, I have seen substantial improvement on both counts. My only regret is not having known about pelvic floor physiotherapy years ago. I have been telling my story of recovery to other women I meet. Many women report also struggling with post-pregnancy and aging pelvic issues but have been unaware of pelvic floor physiotherapy. Somehow, the message of this important treatment needs to get out to women across London. Thank you again for the excellent care your clinic provided to me.
My visits at Mama’s Physio, and working with Carla Huls, completely changed my perspective of women’s health, especially post-pregnancy. About five years after my third child, I felt a heaviness in my anterior pelvis and started to worry that something may be prolapsing. How could this happen five years after giving birth with no signs otherwise, and what could I do about it? Thankfully, I mentioned this in conversation to a good friend who recommended Mama’s Physio. After working with Carla, I regained control of my pelvic floor. The education and treatments I received connected my brain to my body in a way that will benefit me indefinitely. My only complaint from this experience is against our health care system. Why aren’t we all prescribed visits for pelvic physiotherapy before and after child birth? I recommend every post-partum woman to try pelvic floor physio at The Mama’s Physio. Talking to someone about issues such as incontinence, pain during sexual intimacy, pain during bowel movement, separated abdominal muscles and the such can be extremely embarrassing! However at The Mama’s Physio, the therapists take time to listen without judgment, help you understand what you are going through, and then teach you ways to work on those issues to get back to your pre-pregnancy body. Not only was Eliza, my therapist, empathetic, knowledgeable, and evidence-based, but Kate, the receptionist, was super welcoming too. The facilities are beautiful and peaceful, with a couch, tea and sweets to make you feel at home as soon as you enter. If you can’t leave your children at home, no problem! A playroom is available, and Kate will even hold your crying newborn while you are with your physio – yep, happened to me!
I came to Ibbie in October 2015 after being diagnosed with pelvic organ prolapse. I was experiencing pretty constant discomfort and was unable to stand or walk for more than 15 min at a time without significant pain. Lifting my grandchildren was out of the question for me. By December, I was symptom free. Not only did Ibbie devise an effective physical therapy plan for me, she treated me with optimism, sensitivity and respect. I am so grateful to her and recommend her highly.
I had no idea what to expect when I called to set up an appointment at The Mama’s Physio. All I knew was I needed to do something to support my postpartum body and spirit. I was greeted on the phone by Kate, and she was incredibly kind and easy to talk to. I was treated with respect and discretion.
Sophia was my PT and I can’t say enough good things about her. Pelvic floor physio is such a sensitive, intimate and emotional thing and I was met with kindness, autonomy, and care. I was asked for my consent and comfort level for anything that we were doing and she talked through any procedure involving touch. I visited Sophia for many months and my whole world has changed. I am feeling stronger and more confident and was given tools to continue my pelvic floor strengthening.

I’ve been meaning to send you an email for a while now to let you know how happy I was with my appointments with Carla. She made me feel so comfortable in a potentially less-than comfortable situation, and I really appreciated the time she allowed me to deal with my newborn (wow I can’t believe he’s almost 1 already).
